About the Patriot Run

The Patriot Run is a school-sponsored event put on by Carrollwood Day School's booster club in Tampa. It offers several distance options, from a full road race down to a short kids' dash run on the football field, so the whole family can participate at whatever level fits them.

Packet pickup and race-morning registration happen before the first wave goes off, so there is no need to come in the day before. A DJ, activities, crafts, and a free breakfast round out the morning on school grounds after the racing wraps up.

Common Questions About the Patriot Run

Will I finish last at the Patriot Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:14, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:17:33, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Patriot Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (179 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Patriot Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:13 while the median finisher took 36:14. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Patriot Run?

Join a local run club. Run Tampa, Run the Heights, Run Club for MFs That Don't Run and others in Tampa welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
