About the Old Zoo Half Marathon

The course starts and finishes at the old zoo site inside Griffith Park, a place with enough history that the ruins themselves are worth a look on any other day. From there the route stays mostly flat and scenic through the park, which keeps the miles moving without much resistance.

Common Questions About the Old Zoo Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Old Zoo Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:30:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:07:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Old Zoo Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 418 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Old Zoo Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:21:52 while the median finisher took 2:30:15. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Old Zoo Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. DTLA Running, Venice Run Club, Los Angeles Running Club and others in Los Angeles welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
