About the Lunartic 5K Run/Walk
This is a nighttime trail race along the shoreline of Smithville Lake, timed to coincide with a full moon. The route runs point-to-point through wooded trail, and the tree canopy blocks enough light that a headlamp is worth bringing. The course starts at one trailhead and finishes at a lakeside cove, so the scenery shifts as you go.
Packet pickup happens the evening before at the high school, then again at the finish area on race day before the start. Do not drive to the starting trailhead; parking is at the finish, and buses shuttle runners to the start line. The park entry fee for the lot is folded into your registration, and you pick up the hang tag at packet pickup.
