About the Los Angeles Sunset Relays

The course runs through Griffith Park as the sun goes down, so you get skyline views during the race rather than just at the finish. It is trail running, with the kind of terrain that rewards proper shoes. There are solo and relay options, and a food truck and fruit and snacks are waiting at the finish.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at a Fleet Feet in Burbank. Race-day pickup is available at Park Center inside Griffith Park, though the organizers suggest arriving well ahead of your start to leave time for parking and gear.

Common Questions About the Los Angeles Sunset Relays

Will I finish last at the Los Angeles Sunset Relays?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 49:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:26:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Los Angeles Sunset Relays a good first 5K?

It is a small race (105 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Los Angeles Sunset Relays?

The 5K winner ran 30:31 while the median finisher took 49:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Los Angeles Sunset Relays?

Join a local run club. DTLA Running, Venice Run Club, Los Angeles Running Club and others in Los Angeles welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
