About the LA Classic Turkey Trot

The course runs through Griffith Park, starting and finishing near the Shane's Inspiration playground area. There are several distance options, from a short loop to a longer trail push through the park. Costumes are common, especially around Thanksgiving, and strollers are welcome on the shorter route. Port-a-potties are at the start and finish, and there are park restrooms nearby as well.

Water stations are spread along the longer routes. The finish line and course support do close after a set cutoff, so if you are planning to walk the longer distances, factor that into your pace.

Common Questions About the LA Classic Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the LA Classic Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:25:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the LA Classic Turkey Trot a good first 5K?

A field of 395 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the LA Classic Turkey Trot?

The 5K winner ran 15:08 while the median finisher took 38:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the LA Classic Turkey Trot?

Join a local run club. DTLA Running, Venice Run Club, Los Angeles Running Club and others in Los Angeles welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
