About the Jingle Trails

Jingle Trails runs through McAllister Park on dirt trails with roots, rocks, and gravel underfoot. The course is genuinely technical, not a groomed path, so expect to watch your footing. Runners doing the longer distances cover the blue loop, while the shorter option follows a separate red trail. The different routes converge near the end, so the finish area gets a crowd.

The race starts and finishes at the Optimist Pavilion inside the park. Packet pickup runs at a local running store earlier in the week, with race-morning pickup available as well. Runners doing the longest distance start earlier than the others, so that group should plan ahead. There is Shiner beer at the finish.

Common Questions About the Jingle Trails

Will I finish last at the Jingle Trails?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 40:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:13:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Jingle Trails a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (158 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Jingle Trails?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:47 while the median finisher took 40:34. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Jingle Trails?

Join a local run club. Dreamers, In The Loop Run Crew, Urban Run Club SATX and others in San Antonio welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
