The course starts outside a historic jail building, a National Register site where John Dillinger once staged a famous escape. From there the route runs through downtown along a tree-lined main street. The terrain is flat the whole way, and the surroundings are more historic district than park or trail.
Downtown Crown Point has several local restaurants within easy walking distance of the finish, which makes it simple to sit down and eat before heading home.
