About the Hammond Firefighters 911 Memorial Run

Cate Square Park in downtown Hammond serves as the start and finish, with the route heading out to a local university campus and looping back. The road course is flat throughout, moving between open streets and campus grounds. The race is organized by local firefighters, and proceeds support nonprofits they back.

Packet pickup runs over the two evenings before race day at a local fitness studio, with a race-morning option available as well. The park setting puts the start and finish right in the middle of downtown, easy to find.

Common Questions About the Hammond Firefighters 911 Memorial Run

Will I finish last at the Hammond Firefighters 911 Memorial Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:19:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hammond Firefighters 911 Memorial Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (174 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hammond Firefighters 911 Memorial Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:08 while the median finisher took 34:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
