The longer course threads through Griffith Park's major trails and climbs to a final peak, so there is real elevation here and a genuine sense of moving through the park rather than around its edges. The shorter option stays flat and runs under tree cover, which makes a difference on a warm morning in Los Angeles. Both routes are on dirt trail, not pavement.
