About the Friday the 13th Night Race - Deranged Turkey Trot: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon

The course runs along the Long Beach waterfront path, flat on pavement and open to the ocean breeze. It goes out and back through themed checkpoints with names like the Pie or Die water stop, staffed by volunteers in costume. Because it starts in the late afternoon and finishes after dark, the whole route is lit up with glow effects and fog.

Check-in opens several hours before the first wave goes off, so there is time to settle in before dark. The finish area runs as a campfire festival with a costume contest and a DJ, and the whole scene leans hard into a Thanksgiving-meets-horror-movie theme.
