About the Colorado Cold Snap

The course starts at a golf course and winds through neighborhoods, past fairways, ponds, and open spaces. Underfoot you get roughly equal parts pavement and crushed gravel or dirt trail. The weather is genuinely unpredictable, anywhere from a bright mild day to blowing snow and bitter cold, so dress for the full range of what a Colorado winter can throw at you.

Same-day registration and packet pickup open in the expo at the golf course on race morning. Parking at the venue is limited, so overflow spills onto the surrounding residential streets. There is also an advance pickup option the evening before at a running store in Westminster. Runners who bring food donations are entered into a raffle for gear and race entries.

Common Questions About the Colorado Cold Snap

Will I finish last at the Colorado Cold Snap?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Colorado Cold Snap a good first 5K?

It is a small race (153 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Colorado Cold Snap?

The 5K winner ran 16:08 while the median finisher took 34:22. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
