About the Colorado 13er (Half Marathon/10k/5k)

The course starts and finishes at a Home Depot on Dillon Road, which sounds odd until you actually run it. Most of the route is crushed gravel and stays flat, so the footing is easy and the pace tends to feel faster than expected. The Flatirons are visible for much of the run, and the views hold up the whole way around.

Packet pickup the day before is at a running store in Westminster. On race morning, the start and finish area is at the Home Depot lot, but parking is in the Cinebarre and RTD lots nearby, not the store's own lot. After you finish, a local coffee shop on West Cherry Street gives runners a discount on drinks if you bring your bib in.

Common Questions About the Colorado 13er (Half Marathon/10k/5k)

Will I finish last at the Colorado 13er (Half Marathon/10k/5k)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:16:01, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:58:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Colorado 13er (Half Marathon/10k/5k) a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (146 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Colorado 13er (Half Marathon/10k/5k)?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:27:01 while the median finisher took 2:16:01. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
