About the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon

The course runs along the beach path at Alamitos Beach, out and back, so you retrace your ground and cross the finish where you started. The path stays coastal the whole way, flat and open, with other beachgoers sharing the space alongside you. Turns are marked with chalk and flags, and there are a couple of water stations out on the course.

Bib pickup runs the afternoon before at Sports Basement Long Beach, with morning pickup available at the start. Parking at the beach lot is paid by the hour; street parking nearby is free. After you finish, gear check is handled at the registration tent if you want to leave a bag.

Common Questions About the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 40:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:20:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 214 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:16 while the median finisher took 40:58. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Chasing Santa - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. Long Beach Run Club, Long Beach Running Club, Long Beach Frontrunners and others in Long Beach welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
