About the Beer City Half™ Long Beach

The course starts at a waterfront park and heads out along the shore before turning up the LA River, so the terrain shifts from pavement to trail partway through. It is a point where the city opens up around you, with the river on one side and a pretty clear view of how flat this stretch of the coast actually is.

A beer festival runs the rest of the day after the race wraps, with local breweries pouring at the finish area. If you are the type to linger, there is plenty of reason to stick around after you cross.

Common Questions About the Beer City Half™ Long Beach

Will I finish last at the Beer City Half™ Long Beach?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 37:48, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:50:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Beer City Half™ Long Beach a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 434 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Beer City Half™ Long Beach?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:44 while the median finisher took 37:48. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Beer City Half™ Long Beach?

Join a local run club. Long Beach Run Club, Long Beach Running Club, Long Beach Frontrunners and others in Long Beach welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
