About the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run

The race runs through Bakersfield with a hot fudge sundae waiting at the finish, which is the whole point. There is also a walking distance option, and teams can enter together under a shared name. A costume contest and a largest-group contest run before the start, so there is already something happening when you arrive.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a fitness studio on Ming Ave, with race-morning pickup available as well. The sundae stations open shortly after the run gets going, so finishers do not wait long. Awards follow before the morning is out.

Common Questions About the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run

Will I finish last at the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run a good first 5K?

A field of 550 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run?

The 5K winner ran 17:20 while the median finisher took 40:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
