About This Club

San Francisco Road Runners Club has been putting people out on SF's roads, tracks, and trails since 2001, with five run days per week and pace groups spanning 7:30 to 11:00 minutes per mile plus a dedicated walk group.

It is volunteer-led, which means the structure and consistency come from people who are doing this because they love it. If you want a club with real variety in terrain, distance, and scheduling rather than a single weekly jog, this is built for that.

Who It Suits

This club works well if you want structure across multiple days and terrains, whether you are training for a half marathon, a full, or just want to run consistently with other people.

The walk group and built-in walk breaks make it genuinely usable for beginners, not just tolerated. If you are looking for a free, drop-in, no-commitment run, this is not it - annual membership costs $170 for new members, though reduced rates exist for low-income runners and full-time students.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Depending on the day, you might be on the track at Kezar, running tempo loops from the Ferry Building, exploring Marin trails on Sunday, or hitting a rotating Saturday route somewhere around the city.

Distances run from 3 miles up to 24, so the same club that fits a newer runner fits someone deep in marathon training. Pace groups are organized, and the 9:00-per-mile groups and slower build in one-minute walk breaks every eight minutes, so you are not expected to run the whole thing without stopping.

Your First Run

The location changes by day, so check which one fits your schedule and confirm the exact meeting spot before you go - Tuesday track is at Kezar West Gate, Wednesday is at Sports Basement Presidio, Thursday tempo runs meet at the Ferry Building, Sunday heads to Marin, and Saturday rotates around the city. Membership is required to run with the club, so you will want to sort that out before you show up.

When you arrive, find the pace group that matches where you are right now, not where you hope to be - with a range from walk group up to 7:30 pace, there is no reason to squeeze into a faster group. Saturday runs finish with snacks, drinks, and donuts, which takes the edge off showing up solo.
