About the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run

The course starts and finishes at Riverside Park and follows part of the Oktoberfest parade route through La Crosse. Because the parade actually starts that morning, there is a firm cutoff when the course gets pulled, so this is not a race where you can drift along indefinitely. Several distance options mean most runners can find something that fits. There is a sweet treat at the finish.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the downtown YMCA on Main Street, with race-morning pickup available at the park before the start. The park start area means parking and logistics tend to be straightforward.

Common Questions About the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run

Will I finish last at the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:54, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:16:57, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 495 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:42 while the median finisher took 34:54. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
