About the Woldumar Trail Run

The course runs entirely on natural surfaces through Woldumar Nature Center, moving through open grassland, stands of pine, wetlands, and hardwood forest along the Grand River. There is no pavement anywhere, and the terrain is genuinely varied and rugged in stretches, so trail shoes make sense. The race benefits the nature center's environmental education programs for local students.

Packet pickup is offered the evening before at the nature center, with a morning-of option as well. Strollers are allowed but expect real trail conditions. Refreshments are out after the race, and children's activities run alongside the event. Pets are not permitted on the course during the race itself.

Common Questions About the Woldumar Trail Run

Will I finish last at the Woldumar Trail Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:38, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Woldumar Trail Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (162 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Woldumar Trail Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:03 while the median finisher took 34:55. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
