The course runs through Busse Woods South, a forest preserve on the edge of Elk Grove Village with paved paths through wooded, open terrain. The race is chip-timed and draws participants running for schools and teachers rather than just for themselves. Award categories include age groups, a fastest-teacher bracket, and a parent-child duo category.
Race-morning registration and packet pickup open well before the start, followed by an opening ceremony and warm-up on-site. There is music, food, and prizes after the finish line.
