About the Turkey Scramble

The course starts in front of a community center, swings past a vocational school parking lot, then follows the Finley River along a bridge before looping back. Most of the route runs flat alongside the river and the downtown business district, with a small slope near the finish. Leashed dogs are welcome to run alongside their owners.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Hometown Sports, a local running store, with a race-morning pickup window as well. The start area hosts a pre-race gathering with refreshments, a costume contest, and door prize drawings. Proceeds support local community programs including a holiday gift card initiative run with city officials.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a decent-sized field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Turkey Scramble

Will I finish last at the Turkey Scramble?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Turkey Scramble a good first 5K?

A field of 353 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Turkey Scramble?

The 5K winner ran 16:21 while the median finisher took 35:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
