About the Turkey Chase

The course runs on a multi-use trail through Umstead Park, and the footing is honest: roots, rocks, and uneven ground throughout. Conditions shift with whatever weather came before race day, so trail shoes are worth considering. Several distance options let you pick your challenge, from a short loop up to a half marathon. The course is not certified, so leave the GPS watch in pace mode, not distance mode.

Check-in and parking are at a sports grill in Harrison Square, not at the park itself. Buses carry runners to and from the start, so plan to arrive with time to spare before the staggered start gets underway.

Turkey Chase 2025 Results

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Turkey Chase

Will I finish last at the Turkey Chase?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:37:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Turkey Chase a good first 5K?

A field of 200 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Turkey Chase?

The 5K winner ran 20:35 while the median finisher took 40:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
