About the Tidewater Striders Elizabeth River Run 10K & Mile

The course runs through historic downtown Portsmouth, flat and road-surfaced, looping through old city streets before coming back along the seawall near the waterfront pavilion. A separate out-and-back mile runs along Crawford Street, starting and finishing in front of the same pavilion. Both routes are certified and fast, with the seawall stretch offering a good view of the water in the final push.

The post-race party at the pavilion brings local craft beer, food trucks, live music, and vendors. Packet pickup runs across two evenings the week before the race at a location to be announced, with race-morning pickup available for those coming from out of town.

Common Questions About the Tidewater Striders Elizabeth River Run 10K & Mile

Will I finish last at the Tidewater Striders Elizabeth River Run 10K & Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:04:04, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:57:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Tidewater Striders Elizabeth River Run 10K & Mile a good first 10K?

A field of 740 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Tidewater Striders Elizabeth River Run 10K & Mile?

The 10K winner ran 32:47 while the median finisher took 1:04:04. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
