About the Thoroughbred Classic 5K
The course runs at Keeneland Race Course, a working thoroughbred racing facility on the west side of Lexington. The grounds have a particular atmosphere on Thanksgiving morning, when the barns and track infrastructure are visible all around. The route is relatively flat, as you would expect from a racing venue, and the surface is well-maintained.
Packet pickup happens at one of the barns on the Keeneland grounds in the two afternoons before the race, so most runners can avoid race-morning lines. Strollers and dogs are permitted with some conditions, so it draws a wide range of family groups on the holiday.
