About the Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon

The course runs along the beach path at Alamitos Beach, staying on the pedestrian side the whole way. It is an out-and-back on a flat coastal path, so you will see other beach-goers sharing the space as you run. The open, salt-air setting makes it feel more like a morning at the shore than a closed road race.

Bib pickup runs the afternoon before at a local sporting goods store, with pickup also available at the start on race morning. Parking in the lot nearest the start requires a payment app or coins by the hour; street parking nearby is free. A gear check is available at the registration tent if you want to leave a bag.

Common Questions About the The Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:09:05, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:58:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon a good first 10K?

It is a small race (39 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon?

The 10K winner ran 45:53 while the median finisher took 1:09:05. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Retro Run - 5K, 10k, 10m, and Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. Long Beach Run Club, Long Beach Running Club, Long Beach Frontrunners and others in Long Beach welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
