About the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon

Alamitos Beach is the start, and the route heads out along the waterfront path from there. It is an open path, shared with pedestrians and cyclists, so runners stay to the right. Turns are marked with chalk and flags. The shorter and longer distances all use overlapping out-and-back sections of the same flat shoreline stretch.

Early bib pickup is the evening before at a local running store. Race-morning pickup opens at the start area before the first wave. Parking is available in the adjacent lot, with free street parking as an alternative. The finish area has water, sports drink, gels, and fruit snacks set out.

Common Questions About the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:31:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:20:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (51 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:30:00 while the median finisher took 2:31:10. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Jurassic Jaunt - 5K, 10K, 10M, and Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. Long Beach Run Club, Long Beach Running Club, Long Beach Frontrunners and others in Long Beach welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
