About the Lainy's Light 5K Santa Run/Walk

This is a holiday-themed run held in memory of Lainy Sharpe, with proceeds going to the Lainy's Light Foundation, which supports pediatric cancer families in the area. Register before the deadline and you can wear a Santa hat and beard on the course, so expect a sea of red and white on race morning.

The event is organized around both running and walking, and the charitable mission is central to the morning rather than a footnote. It is worth knowing that registrations and donations are non-refundable, so plan accordingly before committing.

Common Questions About the The Lainy's Light 5K Santa Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Lainy's Light 5K Santa Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 42:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lainy's Light 5K Santa Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (197 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lainy's Light 5K Santa Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 22:07 while the median finisher took 42:10. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
