About the Tantalus 10-Mile Challenge
The course climbs out of Makiki Heights Drive, turns onto Tantalus Drive, and keeps going up through the forested hillside above Honolulu for roughly half the race before swinging onto Round Top Drive for the descent. The final stretch brings you back uphill to the finish, so there is no coasting at the end. The canopy and the views out over the city are the real draw.
An early start is available for walkers and those expecting a longer finish time, though that wave is not eligible for awards. Either way, the start comes before full daylight, so a headlamp is worth tucking into your pocket. Packet check-in opens before the early wave goes off.
