About the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Dallas

The course runs through Sam Houston Trail Park, with shaded paths and natural surroundings taking some of the edge off the summer heat. A DJ keeps things moving at the start and finish, calling out runners by name, and awards are handed out on-site with the full crowd present.

Kona Ice is at the finish, which is a reasonable thing to look forward to after a summer half marathon. The post-race area has snacks and music, so there is reason to stick around once you cross.

Common Questions About the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Dallas

Will I finish last at the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Dallas?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:23:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:34:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Dallas a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (172 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Dallas?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:01:55 while the median finisher took 2:23:09. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
