About the Step Up for Seniors 5K

The race starts and finishes at the Hood County Senior Center, with proceeds supporting daily meals and programming for older residents, including a home delivery meal program. The cause is woven into the morning rather than just mentioned on a flyer. Pets are welcome on leash, so the start area tends to draw a mixed crowd of runners, walkers, and dogs.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the Senior Center, the same building where the race begins. Walk-up registration is open race morning as well, so you have flexibility if plans change.

Common Questions About the Step Up for Seniors 5K

Will I finish last at the Step Up for Seniors 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 46:06, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Step Up for Seniors 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (78 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Step Up for Seniors 5K?

The 5K winner ran 20:07 while the median finisher took 46:06. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
