About the Step By Step's Race

The course starts at an outdoor preschool called The Grove, then moves through Van Lierop Park before turning onto the Foothills Trail. The terrain is mixed, so expect a surface that changes underfoot rather than staying consistent pavement throughout. Several distance options mean the morning draws a wide spread of participants, from small children doing a short dash to runners covering the longer route.

Packet pickup is available at the Step By Step offices the evening before the race, which keeps race-morning lines shorter. The start area at The Grove has a kids zone, and after finishing there are donut holes, coffee, and other treats. If you bring a package of diapers or wipes, you can enter a raffle drawing at the finish.

Common Questions About the Step By Step's Race

Will I finish last at the Step By Step's Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 44:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:14, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Step By Step's Race a good first 5K?

A field of 252 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Step By Step's Race?

The 5K winner ran 19:25 while the median finisher took 44:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
