About the St. Paul Village Community Walk & 5K Run

The race is held at a middle school in Chapel Hill, with a course that suits the occasion: a community gathering built around a neighborhood development project tied to the historic Rogers Road area. The run is electronically timed, and there is an awards ceremony with prizes across age groups and overall categories for both men and women.

A portion of the net proceeds goes to local causes the church supports, so the entry fee carries some weight beyond the race itself. The start is in the morning, and the middle school grounds give families room to spread out before and after.

Common Questions About the St. Paul Village Community Walk & 5K Run

Will I finish last at the St. Paul Village Community Walk & 5K Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:35, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the St. Paul Village Community Walk & 5K Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (122 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the St. Paul Village Community Walk & 5K Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:13 while the median finisher took 36:35. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
