About the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education

The route starts and finishes at Bynum Hall on campus, so you begin and end in a familiar spot for anyone who has spent time around the university. The race honors a former student body president known for her service work, and that history gives the morning a particular weight without making it feel solemn.

Packet pickup happens on campus the evening before, with a race-morning option if you cannot make it. Before the start, there is a live a cappella performance and a handful of vendor booths and activities set up near the start area.

Common Questions About the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education

Will I finish last at the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education a good first 5K?

A field of 260 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education?

The 5K winner ran 18:50 while the median finisher took 40:10. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
