The Solar Strides 5K raises money for a student-run solar energy nonprofit that installs panels for low-income households. The race starts on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus early in the morning, before the sun is fully up, which gives the whole thing a quiet, purposeful feel. Post-race food from sponsors is set up at the finish.
