About the 2026 Spooktacular 5K & Monster Mile

The race runs through downtown Huntsville on Halloween weekend, starting on Church Street near the city's Museum of Art. The costume contest is a real part of the morning, with judges on-site before the shorter distance begins, and categories run from scariest to most original to outright ugliest. It is a morning where a lot of people are wearing something ridiculous.

Packet pickup is the evening before at Fleet Feet Huntsville, with race-morning pickup available as well. A parking garage nearby opens early, accessible from Clinton and Church, and port-a-johns are set up right beside it. Awards and costume winners are announced shortly after the final runners finish.

Common Questions About the 2026 Spooktacular 5K & Monster Mile

Will I finish last at the 2026 Spooktacular 5K & Monster Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:49, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 2026 Spooktacular 5K & Monster Mile a good first 5K?

With 990 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 2026 Spooktacular 5K & Monster Mile?

The 5K winner ran 16:53 while the median finisher took 36:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
