About the SCPS Santa Chase

The course runs on campus trails, with natural terrain underfoot that makes for a genuinely different feel from a road race. The trails are rooted and uneven in places, so you are watching your footing rather than your watch. There is a costume contest, and enough people show up dressed for the holiday that the start area has a real carnival energy to it.

Packet pickup is the evening before at the Eckburg Building, which sits just inside the main campus entrance off Chatham Parkway. On race morning, face painting and food vendors are set up for families, so there is plenty going on before and after you run.

Common Questions About the SCPS Santa Chase

Will I finish last at the SCPS Santa Chase?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 32:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:19, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the SCPS Santa Chase a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (127 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the SCPS Santa Chase?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:22 while the median finisher took 32:39. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
