About the Sabino Canyon Sunset Run

The course runs through Sabino Canyon, inside a national forest on the edge of Tucson. The terrain is desert canyon, which means uneven ground, real elevation, and surroundings that look nothing like a city road race. There is a pace requirement on the longer distance, so this is not a course to take casually if you are planning to walk it.

Registration caps out and closes before race day, so there is no showing up and signing up at the start. Pizza, snacks, and eegees are at the finish line when you come through.

Common Questions About the Sabino Canyon Sunset Run

Will I finish last at the Sabino Canyon Sunset Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 7.4 Miles field finished slower than 1:17:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:11:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Sabino Canyon Sunset Run a good first 7.4 Miles?

A field of 324 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 7.4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Sabino Canyon Sunset Run?

The 7.4 Miles winner ran 45:17 while the median finisher took 1:17:29. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
