About the Running the Shores

The race starts and finishes at Edgewater Park, right along the Lake Erie shoreline. The course is open to runners and walkers, with a chip-timed run option and an untimed walk for those who want a more relaxed pace. Before the gun, there is a brief ceremony honoring a pioneer of sickle cell research, which gives the morning a sense of purpose beyond the racing.

Check-in opens well before the start, giving you time to settle in. Dogs are welcome on course as long as they stay leashed and line up toward the back. Refreshments are available at the finish line, and awards go to the top overall finishers in both the men's and women's fields.

Common Questions About the Running the Shores

Will I finish last at the Running the Shores?

Almost certainly not. Half the race field finished slower than 34:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Running the Shores a good first race?

It is a small race (54 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first race, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Running the Shores?

The race winner ran 19:43 while the median finisher took 34:42. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
