About the RunAround Tucson Relay

This is a relay race that travels a long loop of Tucson's paved shared-use trail network, following the washes and river parks that thread through the city. Teams divide the route into legs of varying lengths, with some legs considerably longer than others. The course is paved throughout, flat in character, and runs through open desert parkland rather than streets.

Packet pickup happens at local running stores in the days before the race, with a race-morning option at Rillito Regional Park, where the relay starts and finishes. Each team is responsible for shuttling its own runners between exchanges, so some coordination ahead of time goes a long way. A band and food are at the finish.

Common Questions About the RunAround Tucson Relay

Will I finish last at the RunAround Tucson Relay?

Almost certainly not. Half the 54.1 Miles field finished slower than 8:34:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 10:54:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the RunAround Tucson Relay a good first 54.1 Miles?

It is a small race (29 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 54.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the RunAround Tucson Relay?

The 54.1 Miles winner ran 6:13:55 while the median finisher took 8:34:20. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
