About the Run with Joy Half Marathon/10k/5k and 1 Miler

The course runs out and back along the North Diversion Channel Trail, a shared path that is mostly flat with a few dips where it passes beneath major streets. It starts and finishes at Canteen Brewhouse, so the post-race scene is right there at the brewery when you cross the line. The unicorn theme runs through the whole morning.

Packet pickup happens the evening before at the same brewhouse, and they discount pints for runners who show up with their bib. The finish area has breakfast burritos and a choice of beer or root beer. There is a post-race raffle open to everyone rather than traditional age-group awards, and your bib is your ticket.

Common Questions About the Run with Joy Half Marathon/10k/5k and 1 Miler

Will I finish last at the Run with Joy Half Marathon/10k/5k and 1 Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:51, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:43, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run with Joy Half Marathon/10k/5k and 1 Miler a good first 5K?

It is a small race (118 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run with Joy Half Marathon/10k/5k and 1 Miler?

The 5K winner ran 20:22 while the median finisher took 35:51. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
