About the Run to Rebuild

The course follows Forbidden Drive through Fairmount Park, a packed-gravel trail that runs alongside a creek under a heavy tree canopy. It is a point-and-back style route, mostly flat, with no pavement underfoot. The race benefits home repair work in Philadelphia, so there is a charitable thread running through the morning alongside the competitive one.

Parking fills up, and the organizers are upfront about that. Plan to arrive early and expect a walk from your car to the start. Staff are posted at the lots to redirect runners once a spot is full, so arriving with time to spare makes the morning easier.

Common Questions About the Run to Rebuild

Will I finish last at the Run to Rebuild?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 51:53, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run to Rebuild a good first 5K?

It is a small race (159 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run to Rebuild?

The 5K winner ran 19:00 while the median finisher took 31:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Run to Rebuild?

Join a local run club. Fairmount Running Club, Philadelphia Runner Track Club, Wissahickon Wanderers and others in Philadelphia welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
