About the Run A Muck Cross Country 5K and 10K

The course runs through a private working organic farm, winding across wooded trails and open fields. The shorter distance is mostly flat but throws in mud and water jumps, hay bales, and logs. The longer course covers all of that, then heads out into hillier, more technical terrain. Dogs on leashes are welcome to race alongside their people.

Post-race, the farm puts out fresh produce and snacks, and runners are welcome to bring something to the potluck lunch that follows. You can also camp on the property the night before, with a bonfire going. Race-morning packet pickup is available, so there is no need to make a separate trip.

Common Questions About the Run A Muck Cross Country 5K and 10K

Will I finish last at the Run A Muck Cross Country 5K and 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 38:33, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:14:41, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run A Muck Cross Country 5K and 10K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (84 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run A Muck Cross Country 5K and 10K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:37 while the median finisher took 38:33. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
