About the Railway Marathon & Half Marathon

The course runs on a rails-to-trail greenway that follows an old railway corridor, so the surface is smooth and the grade stays mostly gentle the whole way. It is an out-and-back route through several small cities, with trees and creek scenery along the path. Runners chasing a personal best tend to come here specifically for the course shape.

Packet pickup is the afternoon before at a local running store, with a brief pickup window at the start area on race morning as a backup. Parking is available near the start, and a church a short walk away handles overflow when the main lot fills.

Common Questions About the Railway Marathon & Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Railway Marathon & Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 1:58:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:55:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Railway Marathon & Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 262 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Railway Marathon & Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:09:29 while the median finisher took 1:58:56. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
