About the 5th Annual Awaken Recovery Run

The course runs through Black Creek Park on trail. That setting puts you in the trees rather than on pavement, so expect natural terrain underfoot. The race benefits a nonprofit focused on addiction recovery and relational trauma support, which shapes the mood of the morning. Runners tend to show up for the cause as much as the clock.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local running store, with a backup window at the park on race morning. Day-of registration is also available on site if you decide late. The park address is the same place you finish, so there is no separate staging area to navigate.

Common Questions About the 5th Annual Awaken Recovery Run

Will I finish last at the 5th Annual Awaken Recovery Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 30:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 53:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 5th Annual Awaken Recovery Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (61 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 5th Annual Awaken Recovery Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:08 while the median finisher took 30:07. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
