About the RACE THE RUNWAY 5K
The course runs on the actual flight line at Pitt-Greenville Airport, which means you are running on pavement normally reserved for aircraft. Planes are staged along the route, and firetrucks from a local volunteer fire department are part of the scene. It is an unusual setting for a 5K, open and wide, with nothing overhead but sky.
The event doubles as a canned food drive, and there are raffle giveaways on site. Proceeds benefit the Junior League of Greenville and a rural volunteer fire department out of Red Oak, so the morning has a purpose beyond the run itself.
