About the Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi)

Camp Croft State Park was a World War II training ground, and the race leans into that history without apology. The course runs a figure-eight through rugged backcountry trail, with roots, rocks, and genuine climbing throughout. On quiet stretches you can hear the firing range over the ridge. The terrain is technical enough that you will need to pay attention.

The aid station sits at the Activity Center, which also serves as the start area and packet pickup location on race morning. It is stocked with pickles, chips, cookies, pretzels, and candy, along with water, Coke, and ginger ale. No cups are provided, so bring your own hydration vessel. Runners can stage drop bags and personal tents at a designated base camp area near the start.

Common Questions About the Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi)

Will I finish last at the Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 25K field finished slower than 3:24:43, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:03:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi) a good first 25K?

It is a small race (60 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 25K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi)?

The 25K winner ran 2:17:31 while the median finisher took 3:24:43. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
