About the Plucked Turkey 10k

The course runs through the Golden Springs neighborhood on closed roads, so there is no traffic to dodge. The terrain is certified and chip-timed, which draws people who want an accurate result on Thanksgiving morning. Strollers are welcome at the back of the pack, and the overall winners take home turkey breast and pies rather than hardware.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the running club's headquarters, with race-morning check-in inside a community center as a backup. The race doubles as a food drive, so bringing a few canned goods to the start is encouraged.

Common Questions About the Plucked Turkey 10k

Will I finish last at the Plucked Turkey 10k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:03:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:58:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Plucked Turkey 10k a good first 10K?

A field of 266 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Plucked Turkey 10k?

The 10K winner ran 33:57 while the median finisher took 1:03:37. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
