About the Phillippi Shores 5k - 1mile fun run

This race is a school fundraiser, run for the benefit of a local International Baccalaureate school and its students. The route goes through the streets near the school. After the main event wraps up, a Family Fun Zone opens with games, face painting, and jump houses, and there is a recovery spread of snacks and drinks near the finish.

Packet pickup runs on the two evenings before race day at Phillippi Shores Elementary, the same school the race benefits, with race-morning pickup available as well. The school parking lot and surrounding area serve as the race hub, so arriving a little early gives you time to get oriented before the start.

Common Questions About the Phillippi Shores 5k - 1mile fun run

Will I finish last at the Phillippi Shores 5k - 1mile fun run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 58:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Phillippi Shores 5k - 1mile fun run a good first 5K?

A field of 223 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Phillippi Shores 5k - 1mile fun run?

The 5K winner ran 17:26 while the median finisher took 33:47. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
