About the Peter K. Oley Turkey Trot

The race is named for a longtime high school track and cross country coach who shaped running in the village for decades. The course winds through Irvington itself, starting near an elementary school and finishing in Memorial Park just off the Aqueduct. Expect a little of everything underfoot: paved roads, dirt, and grass, with some genuine hills mixed in.

The Girl Scouts help put the event together, which gives the morning a neighborhood feel. The finish in Memorial Park, near the old Aqueduct trail, is a natural gathering spot, and the route through the village means spectators can catch runners at several points along the way.

Common Questions About the Peter K. Oley Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Peter K. Oley Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2.5 Miles field finished slower than 28:02, and the last recorded finisher came in around 44:33, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Peter K. Oley Turkey Trot a good first 2.5 Miles?

A field of 333 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2.5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Peter K. Oley Turkey Trot?

The 2.5 Miles winner ran 14:10 while the median finisher took 28:02. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
