About the Olde York 5K Run/Walk

The route winds through some of the older historical sections of York, which gives it a different feel than a park loop or a track. There is also a shorter walk option for anyone who wants to take it easy. The race benefits a YMCA club for adults with special needs in the area, so the crowd skews warm and the whole evening has that character.

The event starts at the York YMCA and kicks off after dark, which fits the costume theme well. A costume contest runs before the race starts, and refreshments and music follow at the finish. Dressing up is encouraged, and plenty of people do.

Common Questions About the Olde York 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Olde York 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 49:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Olde York 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (28 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Olde York 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 19:45 while the median finisher took 28:07. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
