About the OJR COLOR RUN101

The race starts on a high school track inside a stadium and winds through campus from there. Volunteers stationed along the course throw bursts of colored powder at runners as they pass, so you finish looking very different than when you started. It draws families, students, and neighbors, and the proceeds benefit a school club that pairs students with and without disabilities.

There is not much to puzzle out logistically. The start is right at the stadium track, so parking and the finish area are all in the same place. Age-group awards go to top finishers in both adult and younger divisions, so competitive runners have something to run for even on a course built around fun.

Common Questions About the OJR COLOR RUN101

Will I finish last at the OJR COLOR RUN101?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3 Miles field finished slower than 29:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 47:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the OJR COLOR RUN101 a good first 3 Miles?

It is a small race (123 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the OJR COLOR RUN101?

The 3 Miles winner ran 16:15 while the median finisher took 29:25. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
